Some beautiful birds outside, could someone help me identify them?
Filed Under Garden & Landscape | 6 Comments
They are sitting in the tree right outside my big window. There are about 4 of the tree. This tree is completely ugly for 3 seasons, until in the spring for about 1 week it has beautiful pink blossoms on it that are just breathtaking. But other than that, it is just an uly tree.
These birds have blackish/greyish wings, backs, and heads, while they have bright *******. One of them has pink, another yellow, some brown, and another greyish.
I was thinking they were finches, but I am not sure. They are pretty small. I want to encourage them to nest in that tree, is there anythin I can do? Like leave breadcrumbs or strands or string for nesting materials? Any ideas?
Are they attracted to bread crumbs or do I need to go buy special bird seeds?
Our house was the very first in our neighborhood, so we always have a lot of animals in our neighborhood. Recently because of new development they have been running off, so I want to keep them around.

How can I encourage birds and other animals to my yard?
Filed Under Garden & Landscape | 11 Comments
When I was very young, there was a beautiful blue jay nesting in a small bush. It had a lovely nest and laid 3 perfect eggs. Me and my sister, plus my grandma, would walk to the bush every day and check on the eggs. They hatched wonderfully and we watched them every day grow up, it was so beautiful! Sadly, the mother abandoned the nest. Now 7 years later the nest is still abandoned and has deteriorated, still no little birdies.
How can I encourage new birds to come to my yard (but not use that old nest?) It is still extremely cold where I live (plus several feet of snow), but a few days ago I saw some beautiful finches on a tree. I left some soft yarn outside if they were making a nest, but it hasn’t been touched, and the small breadcrumbs are still there too. Is it just the wrong season?
What can I do to encourage animals and birds to my yard? I live in the midwest by the way. And do I HAVE to buy a bird feeder? Or can I use seeds or bread?

I’m not positive about the country of origin, but a random person told me that they believe it to be from New Zealand.

I live in Northeast Georgia. I would like to identify the different birds in our area, specifically at my feeders. What would be the best book I could purchase that would offer pictures? I’m only interested in birds of my area.

What is it about a beautiful sunny afternoon, with the birds singing and the wind rustling through the leaves,
Filed Under Community Service | 7 Comments
that makes you want to get drunk? And after you’re real drunk, maybe go down to the public park and stagger around and ask people for money, and then lay down and go to sleep?
