I am helping my daughter make a bird feeder for our backyard and we wanted to put some homemade birdfood in it instead of the generic store bought ones. Does anyone know what the most common birds are in SoCal and what they eat?

I want to make a bird feeder out of a pine cone. I heard you can cover a pine cone in peanut butter and then role it in bird seeds and they will stick to the peanut butter. But I don’t have bird seeds, is there any other human foods birds like that i can put on my bird feeder? Will birds like it if I just cover the pine cone with peanut butter but don’t put anything else on it?

I want to start breeding at least 5 different kinds of birds including the African Grey. I know it takes commitment and time. Will someone tell me what kind of pairs I can breed that are worth buying, caring for, breeding, then selling for the ****** for a profit?

I’ve tried placing a large plastic owl near the food and water dish, as well as a rubber snake. The birds still eat and scatter the food and drink and bathe in the water. Food and water dish are kept on a 4×4 stoop outside my back door and the birds area leaving quite a mess everywhere. Moving the dishes are not an option and I do not care to get a bird feeder or bird bath to accomodate these pests. I also tried tieing shiny strips of fabric to the posts around the dishes. That didn’t work either

How are birds flying high above able to distinguish between food and non-food items?

As I sit at the beach week after week, it amazes me that the sea birds can tell when someone is holding a sandwich versus a cell phone and dive down and take the food from someone’s hand, but never attempt to take any non-food items. How do they know the difference?

I was just wondering their differences because I want to reasearch birds for a school project, and I’m really intrested in those types of birds.

I found a birds nest in my workshop in a corner between the ceiling joists. I could hear the babies chirping. I don’t want to cause them any harm or anger the momma, but I need them out of my workshop. Any ideas on a humane and easy way to get them relocated?

I can’t seem to identify birds when they are in flight or if they are more than 7 meters away; they all look the same. I do carry a bird guide with me most of the time as well. Any tips?
